CBSE to Introduce Biannual Board Exams and Global Curriculum by 2026-27
In a groundbreaking move to reduce exam-related stress and align education with global standards, the Indian Government, led by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, has announced key reforms in the education sector. The reforms include conducting CBSE board exams twice a year and introducing a Global Curriculum for international schools starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.
Biannual Exams to Ease Student Stress
As part of the National Education Policy (NEP) framework, CBSE will implement biannual board exams to give students multiple opportunities to perform well. The initiative aims to transform the examination system into a stress-free and student-friendly process. A high-level meeting chaired by the Education Minister, with key officials such as the CBSE Chairperson and the Secretary of School Education, has already set the groundwork for this reform. A draft schema based on the discussions will soon be released for public consultation, allowing stakeholders to contribute to the process.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the importance of this reform, stating, “Education should be about opportunity and not stress. By providing multiple exam chances and extending our curriculum globally, we are nurturing a generation ready for the challenges of tomorrow.”
Global Curriculum for International Schools
Another key reform is the introduction of a CBSE Global Curriculum designed for Indian international schools. Set to be implemented in the 2026-2027 academic year, this curriculum aims to standardize education for Indian students abroad and strengthen India’s presence in the global education landscape. The initiative seeks to align Indian education standards with international benchmarks, offering students opportunities to excel on a global platform.
Stakeholder Involvement and Transparency
To ensure transparency and stakeholder involvement, the government will soon open the draft schema for public consultation. This step aims to gather feedback from educators, parents, and students to refine the proposed reforms and ensure their effective implementation.
